Headaches worry me
Do constant headaches bother you at work and at home? You may wonder whether your headaches are due to stress (both work-related and due to personal stress at home) or if it might be something else – something more serious than just plain headaches.
There are two primary types of headaches: primary and secondary headaches. Primary headaches (e.g. migraine, tension or cluster headaches) are not associated with other diseases. Secondary headaches, however, are caused by associated disease and the associated disease may be minor or serious and even life threatening.
It may be hard to distinguish between primary and secondary headaches, especially because the symptoms of primary headaches and secondary headaches can overlap. Here a few hints when a doctor should be consulted:
You should see a doctor if the headache:
- Is severe (the “worst ever”)
- Different than the usual headaches
- Associated with persistent nausea and vomiting
- Associated with stiff neck, fever, dizziness, blurred vision, weakness, drowsiness or confusion
- Disabling & interfering with work and the quality of life
Those symptoms are not complete so in order to make sure you are not suffering from any serious disease you should consult your doctor if your headache is different than the others you have experienced before. Get well soon!
